Welcome back, capsuleer
Most EVE players take a break at some point. Life gets busy, a corp falls apart, or the game simply stops feeling fun. Coming back is common, and it is easier than it looks once you know where to start.
Your character is still there. Every skill you trained is still on it, and your ships, modules, and ISK are where you left them.
What has changed since you left
It depends on how long you have been away, so expect some surprises. Ships and modules get rebalanced regularly, so an old favorite may fly differently now. New content, regions, and events have been added over the years, and parts of the interface look and work differently.
Do not try to read every patch note. Log in, fly something cheap, and ask people who play now. A five-minute conversation will tell you more about the current game than an evening of reading.
If your subscription lapsed, your character is now an Alpha clone. You can log in for free and fly within Alpha limits: Tech 1 ships up to battleships, haulers, and the Venture. Skills beyond the Alpha set stay on your character, inactive until you return to Omega.
How to re-skill without wasting time
Decide what you want to do first, then train for it. Returning pilots often lose weeks training skills for a playstyle they no longer want.
Pick one activity, such as missions, mining, exploration, small-gang PvP, or industry, and find a doctrine fit for it. Our doctrine library holds copy-ready fits, and the skill plans for missions, small gang, wormhole exploration, and mining are available in game. Train toward the fit you will actually fly, and add the rest later.
Check your old hangars before you buy anything. Many returning pilots find usable ships they forgot they had. What you cannot use, you can sell at home through the GFVX corp buyback for 90% of Jita buy, without hauling to Jita.
Why a structured corp shortens the comeback
The hardest part of returning is not mechanics. It is not knowing what to do, or who to do it with. A structured corp fixes that.
At GFVX you get a home system in Zhilshinou, in Amarr space, with a market seeded with fittings at near cost. You get fleets at many hours, mostly around US Eastern time, with Discord event reminders in your local time. You get cheap corp-provided T1 ships for most corp events and free T1 ship replacement on corp operations, so you can relearn combat without worrying about losses. If you return to wormhole space, members use the Pathfinder mapper.
Most importantly, you get people. Recruiting is a conversation with a human recruiter. There is no skill-point minimum, no API check, and no mandatory voice. Leadership keeps a private feedback channel, and there are no activity quotas. Real life comes first; that is probably part of why you left, and it should not be a reason you cannot come back.
